At the start of Intuitive Solutions, I helped customers find and fix breaks in their business systems. I was good at identifying deep rooted problems and providing solutions as such. More often than not, I was called in because there were problems with revenue. My job was to either grow the top line or help with the bottom line.
Just like any situation when you are helping someone, after a job well done, you naturally earn that person’s trust. Along with trusting you and after they know you can fix their problems, they start to ask you to do other things. This is a story of just that and how IntuitiveRCM services began.
While I was out doing my thing by helping retool practice work flow, I would sometimes say to the customers “you will want to consider a new biller” or “an expansion of your billing team is necessary to maintain optimum revenue.” Customers started to ask “why don’t you do the billing for me” or “don’t you have a billing service offering?” After answering “no,” I would recommend billing services that I knew. Well, one after the other, the companies I recommended started to fumble the ball. I would have customers call me back saying “oh, you know that company you referred for my billing, well, they aren’t doing it anymore.” I would embarrassingly apologize and refer another. The same process went on until one of the customers had a terrible experience and was pretty much left hanging. When I say hanging, I mean literally. The old billing service dropped off a box of charge slips and EOBs (that were never processed) with a note “sorry, can’t do your billing anymore.” Complete DISASTER! So the customer called me and said “help!” The customer was in tears when she told me she had nowhere to go and couldn’t make payroll. I cut her a check to cover payroll and took it upon myself to do her billing.
I grabbed the box of old bills, put it in my trunk, and headed to the Intuitive office. I looked around and none of my staff were billers. They were all busy with their projects. I thought to myself, well, I am a consultant, if i’m going to figure out how Medical Billing should be done and done well, then I might as well do it myself. I dove right into the weeds and started hacking away!
IntuitiveRCM Services was born that day and still thrives today!
